What compels this work is the mystery of meanings as they emerge, or even as they disappear.  The drama of art, for me, is not the arrival of a meaning or the recognition of a specific object, person, story or idea within a work of visual art.  Instead, I am consistently and deeply engaged by the arising of reference—the fullness one feels when something is about to be revealed but hasn’t quite surfaced.  That movement of mystery ceases once one has “figured out” what a play of images “means.”  I intend my work to keep that play going, to extend the mystery of emergent meaning indefinitely.
