You see something from a distance. You almost can identify it, but not quite. Or, you’re working out a problem and the answer is forming in your mind. Maybe you have a dream where you hold a document in your hands and its writing develops slowly, like a Polaroid. Perhaps you find yourself walking behind someone who seems just like a long lost friend. How do you feel before they turn around?
My work is about the mystery of meanings and forms right before certainty, when things are just coming together but haven’t completely gelled. This mystery is very much a process, one that stops when we can identify what we’re seeing, reading, thinking or dreaming. The process before arrival is full of energy, much of which disappears when we find the answer. Not all mysteries require solutions. Living with the unknown can be peaceful, playful and rich with possibility.
